New Workshop Dates Spring 2023

I’ve got some 1-2-1 and group classes coming up which are full, but I have spaces available on Saturday March 18th and Friday March 24th. I’ve had to reluctantly raise my prices after four years, in line with everything going up…. I’m sorry about this but hope the classes still offer good value for money. If you can’t make these dates but are interested in doing one of my classes please let me know and I’ll put you on my waiting list. Details of prices are in the Workshops section of my website.

A (very belated) Happy New Year!

Gosh, it’s already halfway through February! I’m not sure about you but I found January a slog…. endless rain and dark mornings and afternoons didn’t help. But now there are so many signs of spring and the days are getting longer, the vaccinations are being rolled out so brilliantly, life feels brighter. Hopefully by the summer I’ll be able to start my workshops again!! In the meantime, I’m just starting a big nautilus shell mosaic for our bathroom… watch this space!

Find Christmas Presents In My Etsy Shop!

Hello there, I hope you’re all keeping well and are looking forward to Christmas! It’ll be so different this year and I don’t know about you, but I’ve gone in early with the decorations this year and we put our Christmas tree up at the end of November! All the sparkle is so uplifting and very necessary this year.

I’ve recently added lots of my lovely pendants to my Etsy shop. They’re all cut from vintage china and each one is unique. They can be worn as a necklace or used as a keyring and they make a smashing present, which is small and light to send to your loved ones. Find me at HGMosaics on Etsy.

I’m also happy to make bespoke necklaces and I’m currently making one for someone’s wife, with flowers and her name on it, cut from the lettering on the back of plates…. it’s gorgeous! I could also use your china heirlooms to make very personal jewellery or artworks. If you’re interested please call me and we can talk about possibilities. My mobile is 078921 79 050.

Workshop Update

As you can see, my studio and garden are looking blooming lovely and it’s a constant pleasure to see new wild flowers emerging in our meadow! It seems remarkable now to look at photos from last winter when the steps were being put in and the garden was relandscaped - during weeks of interminable rain and so much mud - all that now seems distant past, especially with the strange year we’re having.

I was hoping by now that teaching workshops would be back to normal. After doing a Risk Assessment I think the safest way to proceed is with a maximum of two people at a time, which will ensure it’s possible to keep 1m distance. I will do a thorough clean beforehand and take temperatures on arrival, and I’ll supply visors. It will mean an incresased cost: for one person it’ll be £150 for 1 day and £270 for 2 days. For Two people sharing 1 day is £245 and 2 days £450. These prices include materials, lunch and refreshments. If you’re interested in one of these workshops please contact me to arrange a mutually convenient day.

If you’re part of a bigger bubble and would like to organise a bespoke mosaic day or days then please call me to discuss this on 07821 979050.

Covid 19 - Workshop News

Due to the current Coronavirus situation my mosaic workshops have sadly been postponed until it's possible to run them safely.  Those of you who've already been to one of my workshops will know they're pretty hands-on in terms of my help and also with all the tools and materials.  Since I already teach small groups and one-to-one, hopefully before too long it'll be possible to resume the classes, with masks or visors and lots of hand washing.  I am waiting for more Government guidance and advice and looking at ways to make this viable as soon as possible .

Just before the lockdown in March, my fabulous new studio at the bottom of the garden was finished.... such good/lucky timing!  After all the building work and non-stop rain our garden was carnage, but nature has woven its magic (with quite a lot of elbow grease thrown in!), Spring has sprung, and it has recovered!  In the meantime I decorated the studio and we installed a sedum roof with the help of a lovely italian friend, Giada.  Then there were countless trips up and down the garden with all my lovely jars of mosaic tiles and other art materials.... and then I hit the ground running!

I finally finished a mosaic commission that had been on my To Do List for far too long; and since then I've dug out my oil paints and been loving painting again after a long break.

The studio is a triumph - it's an amazing space with gorgeous views of the orchard and the hills beyond.  Away from the house it's a peaceful haven apart from the very loud, very constant birdsong.... it's bliss.  It'll be a wonderful, inspiring space for my workshops and I can't wait to share it with you.

Hopefully by September/October it'll be possible to start teaching again.  Until then, please stay safe and well.

I am extremely proud to be featured in this book A Celebration of British Craftsmanship. All proceeds go towards funding more scholarships to a really diverse range of craftsmen and women.
